In previous post I documented how to switch from IDE to SATA AHCI in Windows XP. One the most diffcult things I have found is determining which SATA AHCI driver to select in order to get windows xp to boot properly after enabling AHCI in the bios. For the HP Probook I selected the Intel 5 Series 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller. I was able to download the driver from HP’s website, it is listed as the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver. I extracted it with 7zip from the exe file. I manually replaced the driver on the Primary IDE device and then rebooted and enabled sata native mode which turns on AHCI.
