IE10 Group Policy Proxy Settings

by getdeclue on June 26, 2013

In IE10 Internet Explorer Maintenance GPO extension is no longer supported and the settings you previously used with IE8 are not correctly applied. The best workaround I could come up with is to set the following three group policy preferences for the user:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings

ProxyEnable REG_DWORD 00000001

ProxyServer REG_SZ 192.68.0.0:8080

ProxyOverride server;<local>

You need to have WSUS console and IE6 or above installed and it helps to have IE set as your default browser to get this to work right.
Open WSUS console click on the root for Updates under actions click Import Updates. Install the Active X control. Type in Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 in the search box on the far right next to the updates click Add, after you have added all of the updates you would like to import to WSUS click view basket, accept the user agreement, make sure the check box for import directly into WSUS is selected and then click continue.

FBI Warning Ransomeware Virus Removal

by getdeclue on June 6, 2013

Restart the computer in safe mode with command prompt
Run Regedit
Search the Registry for Winlogon keys
Find the one that contains explorer.exe
There will be an additional key before explorer.exe referencing a random ocx file remove only the filename that is not explorer.exe. (in my instance it was dbu32.ocx)
Restart the computer normally
This virus disabled most services and deleted the windows firewall service so download and run: http://kb.eset.com/library/ESET/KB%20Team%20Only/Malware/ServicesRepair.exe
I recommend running the ESET online scanner: http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner-popup/
and downloading Malwarebytes Anti-Malware: http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php

Office 2013 VLK MAK Activation

by getdeclue on May 31, 2013

Office 2013 does not prompt for activation like 2010 when opening one of the applications. To get to the area where you can type in your MAK key, open one of the office application and start a new blank document, click file then click account. On the right hand side it shows product information and if your product has been activated, there is a change product key button where you can type in your MAK key and then click continue.
